According to rtb in an administrative document of which RTB received a copy, the Burkinabe government has issued a formal notification of its withdrawal from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
« This communication constitutes formal notification of this decision to the ECOWAS Commission, Depositary Authority, for the information of ECOWAS Member States, the African Union, the United Nations and all other organizations by she identified », wrote the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabè Abroad, Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré.
As a reminder, on January 28, Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger announced their withdrawal from ECOWAS. In a statement issued shortly after this decision, ECOWAS criticized the method used by the three countries, saying that it did not respect the standards in this area. According to the texts cited by ECOWAS, when a country wishes to withdraw, it must file a formal notification, and the institution has one year to respond.
